Peppermill History
Peppermill Resort Spa Casino's story began on June 17, 1971, when Bill Paganetti and Nat Carasali opened the Peppermill Coffee Shop and Fireside Lounge. Over the years, it evolved into a sprawling resort, hotel, casino, and spa, spanning two million square feet. The journey from a small coffee shop to a luxurious resort has been marked by continuous growth and expansion.
In 1972, Bill and Nat opened the Peppermill Restaurant and Fireside Lounge on the Las Vegas strip. This timeless restaurant still prospers today, and won a James Beard Award for Classic Restaurant in 2024.
In 1979, Tom and Albert Seeno joined forces with Nat Carasali and Bill Paganetti to form what is now known as Peppermill Casinos, Incorporated. The following year saw the first expansion of the original Peppermill Reno restaurant, which included a small casino and motor units. This marked the beginning of the transformation from a modest eatery to a comprehensive entertainment hub.
Peppermill Casinos, Inc. made significant acquisitions in the early 1980s, purchasing the Western Village Inn and Casino in Sparks, NV, in 1983, and the Peppermill Hotel Casino Wendover in 1984. The Wendover property underwent extensive remodeling and reopened in 1985. Expansion continued at the Reno location with a $65 million project initiated in 1986, leading to the grand opening of a new 15-story tower, an expanded casino, and a 30,000 square foot convention space in 1987.
The 1990s saw further growth, with the demolition of 24 motor units in 1994 to make way for a $70 million expansion that added 475 rooms in two towers. In 1995, Peppermill Casinos, Inc. acquired the Rainbow Hotel Casino Wendover.
In 2008, the Peppermill Reno completed its Tuscan expansion, adding a pool deck, Spa Toscana, EDGE Nightclub, and Bimini Steakhouse. The resort also invested in a geothermal project in 2010, providing 100 percent of its mechanical and domestic heat from two wells, each 4,000 feet deep. This commitment to sustainability earned the Peppermill the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® 2018 certification for superior energy performance.
The Peppermill Reno continued its tradition of reinvestment with renovations of the Peppermill Tower rooms and suites, reimagined ballrooms, and Tuscany Ballroom and Peppermill Tower rooms. The resort continues to evolve, combining classic elements with modern technology and maintaining its commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience.
